The RX7's factory halogen lights have always been underpowered, even by the standards of the 1990's. There are a wide variety of upgrade kits on the market today that either augment the existing reflector beams or replace them with a "sleek light". Owners of these kits deal with poor light output, truncated beams, limited adjustability, fogged lens covers, leaking, and other issues. In many cases kits also require cutting the unibody frame in a way that make it impossible to return the car to its stock form.

RS Engineering offers a kit that delivers maximum performance, adjustablility, and durability while maintaining the classic factory look and avoiding any cutting of the car's frame. These genuine Hella lights are used by ALMS race teams and can be found on exotic cars like the Saleen S7 and Pagani Zonda. The light output is at least double that of the original Mazda setup and the system is completely weatherproof. The low beams use 65w projector lenses that put out far more light than the factory reflector light and is positioned optimally for performance. The high beams are 65w halogen pencil reflectors that throw light extremely far downrange. Both lights are DOT approved for use on US roads. (European and RHD customers will use ECE low beams which can be clocked to either LHD or RHD)

This kit retains the full pop-up functionality without interrupting the factory lines of the car. The trim panel is made with genuine carbon fiber and the mounting system uses corrosion-resistant aluminum and stainless steel parts. You can completely (and independently) adjust the lights from the front of the car. There is also an upgraded harness option that allows you to run both low and high beams simultaneously when the bright light switch is engaged. In short, this kit provides the best possible lighting performance and reliability while keeping the classic look of the FD intact.

In order to meet the needs of our customers, RS Engineering offers this headlight kit in two different configurations: as a "standalone" kit where you source your own Hella lights from any authorized vendor (rallylights.com is our favorite) or a "complete" kit where we provide all the necessary components. The installation of the kit does require some modifications but comes with a full color manual describing each step in detail.
